Title: Engineering Inspector (Full Time)

Department: Development and Regulatory Enforcement Services

Duties

The incumbent assists management in achieving departmental efficiency through reliable inspection work, administration of the Land Development Bylaw, adherence to municipal policies, and safeguarding confidential material. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing engineering inspections and services
  • Liaising with the public, contractors, engineers, developers, and utility companies
  • Reviewing engineering plans and conducting site inspections related to subdivision development, service connections, permits, and utility installations
  • Investigating technical issues in servicing subdivisions and inspecting highway access and basement elevations
  • Approving and tracking utility permits
  • Assisting in writing reports, preparing requisitions, certifying invoices, and maintaining records
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Work is performed under general supervision with routine review and evaluation by the Manager. The standard work week is Monday to Friday, with travel required. Union dues will be deducted upon hiring.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a two-year Civil Engineering Technology Program from an Institute of Technology
  • Two years of municipal engineering experience
  • Eligibility for ASTTBC certification
  • Above-average public relations skills and tactful communication
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, civil inspections, and technical records
  • Understanding of road construction and utility services practices, materials, methods, and equipment
  • Proficiency with surveying, drafting, and calculating instruments
  • Valid B.C. Driver's Licence
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Salary: $47.71 per hour (2025 rate)
