JOB SUMMARY

This job is for temporary use in the development of graduate students obtaining licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer you are responsible to provide engineering support in a diverse range of projects. General activities may include carrying out engineering studies / reviews data analysis and preparing technical reports. You will follow a work plan that provides more detailed objectives and duties by specific departments.

Infrastructure & Water Services Department is responsible for implementing citybuilding priorities from planning and delivering infrastructure projects managing assets and investments and providing residents with highquality drinking water the collection and treatment of wastewater and ensuring storm and surface water is efficiently managed. Building a better Ottawa for all to enjoy today and into the future.

You will be working in the Asset Management Branch which is responsible for the costeffective management of the Citys $20 billion public works infrastructure assets carrying out or overseeing the provision of planning analysis and needs evaluation specifications and Request for Proposal (RFP) development evaluation and selection.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year university degree in civil engineering program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Courses in structural analysis bridge design hydraulic and hydrological engineering prestressed concrete would be an asset. Experience in bridge / culvert inspection database systems and GIS would be preferred.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Specific and general knowledge in the field of application related to the department
  • Engineering standards for Ontario / Canada and related to the field of expertise
  • Familiarity of various engineering standards bylaws and related national and provincial codes applicable acts legislations regulations and guidelines
  • Current and advanced engineering technologies processes and design
  • Project management principles and practices
  • Field investigation and surveying techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Drivers License Requirement : A valid Ontario unrestricted G class drivers license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
