Job summary

StandardAero in Winnipeg, MB is seeking an Engineering Director to provide strategic leadership across repair development, production support, and manufacturing operations.

You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, drive operational excellence, and ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and customer requirements. This role partners with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, and other leaders to align engineering with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in manufacturing, repair, or aerospace.
  • 7+ years leading engineering teams in regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Engineering organization by establishing strategic priorities and developing a high-performing team.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, standards, and best practices for operations and quality.
  • Provide leadership for activities across production, repair development, and technical services.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Commercial to align priorities with business goals.
  • Oversee projects from planning to execution including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance safety, quality, productivity and cost.

As the Engineering Director, you will provide strategic leadership for the Engineering organization, driving operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across repair development, production support, and manufacturing operations. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in developing innovative repair solutions, optimizing operational performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory, quality, and customer requirements. Partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, Commercial, and other business leaders, you will align engineering strategies with business objectives to enhance product quality, improve operational efficiency, and support long-term growth.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the Engineering organization by establishing strategic priorities, allocating resources, and developing a high-performing team that supports business objectives, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, policies, standards, and best practices that enhance repair development, manufacturing operations, product quality, and operational performance.
  • Provide leadership and direction for engineering activities supporting production, repair development, technical services, process engineering, customer support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, Commercial, and Program Management teams to align engineering priorities with customer commitments and strategic business objectives.
  • Provide oversight of engineering projects from planning through implementation, including project prioritization, resource allocation, budgeting, capital planning, tooling development, scheduling, and execution.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing and repair processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement engineering solutions, emerging technologies, and best practices that improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Oversee engineering support for repair development, process improvements, technology implementation, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Utilize operational metrics, quality indicators, and data-driven analysis to identify trends, improve decision making, reduce non-conformances, and enhance product reliability.
  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization through coaching, talent development, succession planning, and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Participate as a member of the business leadership team by contributing to strategic planning, capital investment decisions, budgeting, workforce planning, and organizational initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10 or more years of progressive engineering experience supporting manufacturing, production, process engineering, repair development, or aerospace operations.
  • 7 or more years of experience leading engineering teams within manufacturing, aerospace, MRO, or another highly regulated industry.

Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects from planning through implementation, including coordination of resources, timelines, and project deliverables.

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing engineering strategies or process improvement initiatives that improve operational performance, product quality, reliability, or efficiency.

Experience applying project management methodologies, analytical tools, and problem-solving techniques to support engineering and operational objectives.

Experience communicating technical information and business recommendations to stakeholders across multiple organizational levels, including engineering, operations, quality, and leadership teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aerospace MRO experience with gas turbine engines or engine components.
  • Strong knowledge of gas turbine engine theory, performance, repair development, and overhaul processes.
  • Experience supporting FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, CAAC, or other civil aviation regulatory requirements.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) designation, or eligibility to obtain registration where applicable.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, capital projects, technical resource planning, and organizational resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead high-performing engineering organizations within a complex, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to drive decisions that support safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
