Job description

The City of Kamloops is looking for a highly skilled Engineering Design Technician II who is proficient in using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D design software to complete complex municipal design and drafting projects. Your projects will revolve around designs such as roads / sidewalks / muti-use paths / roundabouts, water / sanitation mains and storm drainage featuring green infrastructure. This position providesdetailed information on service locations to field crews and the public as well as producesand filesrecord drawings. We are looking for a well-organized, motivated individual who has a high degree of visual and mental concentration.

Our preference is to hire an Engineering Design Technician II, however, we may hire an Engineering Design Technician I if there are no qualified candidates. Please see the qualifications below and attached job descriptions for more information on both positions.

The successful candidate for an Engineering Design Technician II must have the following qualifications ($46.09 / hour) :

  • Completion of secondary school or its equivalent.
  • Completion of a two-year Computer Aided Design and Drafting program OR a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum three years' previous experience in municipal design using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D design software.
  • Ability to acquire certification as a Civil Technologist (AScT) or a Civil Technician (CTech) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia within 12 months.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

The successful candidate for an Engineering Design Technician I must have the following qualifications ($38.45 / hour) :

  • Completion of secondary school or its equivalent.
  • Completion of a two-year Computer Aided Design and Drafting program OR a Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum six months' previous experience in municipal design using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D-based civil design software.
  • Eligible for certification as a Technologist or a Technician with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia within 12 months.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

Hours & Days of Work

Monday – Friday 8 : 00 AM – 4 : 00 PM (summer)8 : 30 AM – 4 : 30 PM (winter) With the ability to apply for a modified schedule (8 : 00-4 : 30) allowing for one day off every third week

Hourly Rate

46.09 - $38.45
