Responsibilities

This is a four (4) month assignment it will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers and others in different departments in the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the engineering department at BCRTC.

This position will assist Engineering in various projects related to maintaining and operating BCRTC rolling stock and rail assets, research of mechanical issues on rolling stock and wayside elements, research and development of design standards and process improvements and compliance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mechanical Engineering Student - Third or Fourth year preferred with strong academic background in mechanical or electrical engineering

Experience with AutoCAD and competence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Valid BC class 5 driver’s license

Currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Program at a BC university

Previous co-op experience is a strong asset

Previous industrial experience is an asset

Safety first attitude

Excellent verbal communication and writing skills

Proven interpersonal and leadership skills

Positive and self-motivated

Strong organizational and analytical skills

The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Proficient in the use of computer systems and software

The desire to progress, learn, grow, and succeed

Demonstration of excellent grades

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This is a full-time temporary position for four (4) months with the possibility of extension.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $64,000 - $96,000 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.

We want to ensure our offer will align with your strengths considering experience, skills, and internal equity to offer a fair and equitable salary. The Total Compensation Package, which includes Extended Health, Dental, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility as well as other employment offerings will be discussed in detail as your application progresses.
