Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Co-op Student - Mechanical to join our dynamic team at the Ottawa Plant. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work on real-world projects, optimize manufacturing processes, and ensure quality standards in a fast-paced production environment.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Technical Service Manager, the Engineering Co-op Student - Process is responsible for learning and developing engineering, project management, and leadership skills while actively undertaking and accomplishing assignments assigned to them.

Essential Functions:

  • Work on automation projects to improve safety, production efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Assist in the rollout and utilization of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities.
  • Use AutoCAD for design modification of parts to improve reliability.
  • Work on reliability improvement projects with Mechanics and Electricians.
  • Develop and modify Preventive Maintenance Calendars.
  • Work with suppliers to find solutions for frequent maintenance issues.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators and update Reliability Board.
  • Write applicable Maintenance Procedures to promote defect-free maintenance work.
  • Maintain, develop, and enter machine and part data into CMMS.
  • Help EHS department create various procedures.
  • Help implement/improve E-Check, AM Calendar and E-Tag system.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.

Hour work: 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (the hours may vary)

Is this job for you?

Education and Experience:

  • Must be a registered University Internship student within an Engineering Discipline and in good standing.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) software tools.
  • Strong industrial and mechanical design aptitude is preferred.
  • Must possess strong critical thinking, problem solving, analyzing, and examining skills to find the best solutions to various situations.
  • Proven Health and Safety accountabilities.
  • Lean manufacturing training and experience.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in English.
  • Use of SAP enterprise software is an asset.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently sitting, standing and walking for longer periods of time.
  • May require lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
