Job summary

J.D. Irving offers engineering co-op opportunities across its mills in southern, central, and northern New Brunswick and in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Students will coordinate projects, lead teams, and partner with site leaders to drive improvements while prioritizing safety and efficiency. Candidates must be engineering students returning to school with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Engineering student in good academic standing and returning to school.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities.
  • Enjoy working in a team environment with mill staff, contractors and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely.

We have exciting opportunities for engineering co-op students in our state-of-the-art sawmills in southern, central, and northern NB and in Truro, NS.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may vary depending on site specific requirements. General responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate projectsby working alongside contractors and mill personnel to determine scope, planning, and execution of work packages for mill projects
  • Lead specific projects with a team of sawmill staff and millwrights
  • Work alongside senior management and site leaders to drive improvement throughout the site
  • Champion safety, quality, and efficiency on the floor
  • Learn the ins and outs of sawmill production and identify areas for improvement
Qualifications
  • Engineering student in good academic standing, returning to school
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High energy level with thorough attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to improve operational processes
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities
  • Enjoy working in a team-oriented environment with Mill Staff, Unionized Trades People, Operators, Contractors and Suppliers to ensure projects are completed in a cost effective, timely, and safe manner
  • Strong administrative abilities and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
