Aecon is seeking an Engineering Co-op Student to support a major infrastructure project in the Calgary area. This site-based role offers hands-on experience in heavy civil construction, with exposure to resource planning, scheduling, cost control, and field operations.

You will work alongside an experienced project team, gaining practical skills while contributing to successful project delivery and professional growth in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, CET, Construction Management, or related program.
• Experience in the construction industry is a strong asset.
• Beginner knowledge of construction drawings, materials, and standards.
• Proficient in MS Office; AutoCAD/Bluebeam is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site audits and generate reports for project staff and stakeholders.
• Assist Field Engineers and Superintendents with day-to-day tasks.
• Track quantities and analyze productivity to support efficiency.
• Take-off quantities from drawings as required for estimates.
• Review work for quality and accuracy with attention to detail.
• Coordinate schedule updates with project staff and Aecon delegates.
• Monitor progress and assist in job-cost reporting.
• Support month-end reconciliation with data and files.

What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is currently seeking an Engineering Co-op Student to support a major infrastructure project in the Calgary area. This position offer hands-on experience in a dynamic heavy civil construction environment, providing valuable opportunities for professional growth, technical learning, and career development. This is a site-based role that will provide exposure to all phases of project execution, including resource planning, scheduling, cost control, quality management, and daily field operations. Working alongside an experienced project team, the co-op student will gain practical experience while contributing to the successful delivery of a high-profile project.

What You'll Do Here:

• Conduct site audits and analysis, provide daily/weekly/monthly reports to the project staff and key stakeholders.
• Assist Field Engineers and Superintendents with day-to-day tasks.
• Perform quantity tracking and productivity analysis to support operational efficiency.
• Perform quantity take-off from construction drawings as required.
• Review completed work for quality and accuracy, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
• Liaise with and inform the project staff or any other Aecon delegate on the project schedule.
• Monitor progress and assist in the provision of job cost reports to management on active projects.
• Provide data and input for month-end reconciliation.
• Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
• Provide technical support to field staff, craft and subcontractors.
• Assist in the preparation, review, maintenance and approval of Engineering drawings and related documents.
• Gather field information and assist in the preparation of project bill of materials.
• Assist in the preparation of detailed construction and design estimates.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and internal departments.
• Other administrative duties as required.
• Work independently and demonstrate initiative in a fast-paced construction environment.

What You Bring to the Team:

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology (CET), Construction Management, or related engineering/construction program at a university, college, or technical institute.
• Experience in the construction industry is a strong asset.
• Beginner knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings, building materials and required standards applicable to the project.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
• Beginner knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• A strong work ethic, highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done right.
• Adaptable to flexible work schedules (day and night shifts) when required.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• 8-month (or greater) co-op student preferred.
