Position Overview

The assignment will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers, designers, field crew, and others in different departments in the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the planning, operations, and engineering groups at FortisBC. This role will provide experience in distribution system planning, asset management, and operational support.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop the scope and estimates for various distribution system projects. As part of this work, you will complete site visits with a Distribution Designer and the Operations group.
  • Using power system simulation, create distribution system models to evaluate contingency scenarios, new customer connections, and/or capital projects.
  • Assist the Regional Engineer in updating the Load Forecast.
  • Review and prioritize inspection results for distribution system equipment.
  • Provide technical support to the Operations group as required.
  • Participate in the development of the annual capital plan using the Asset Investment Planning tool Copperleaf C55.
  • Assist the Regional Engineer in review and approval of Net Metering (renewable energy interconnection) applications.
What it takes:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Student (Electrical) - Third or Fourth year preferred.
  • Enrolled in a Co-op program
  • Valid driver’s license and current abstract.
Other Qualifications
  • Interested in learning more about the Electrical Utility Industry.
  • Competent public speaker.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
