Job description

Engineering Co-op, Operational Readiness
Application Deadline: Friday, May 9, 2025 (we will review applications on a rolling-basis)

Duration: 8 months

Positions Available: 1

Start Date: Monday, September 8, 2025

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in engineering or a related field. As an Operational Readiness team member, you will work alongside Senior Engineers and Maintenance Specialists in HVC’s exciting Mine Life Extension project. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Responsibilities
  1. Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  2. Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
  3. Coordinate aspects of implementation for the new maintenance strategy of our fixed plant expansions and modifications
  4. Collaborate with OEM vendors and third-party consultants to design maintenance strategies and populate parts lists for our new fixed plant equipment
  5. Act as a liaison between the Teck Project Development Team and on-site Operations and Maintenance experts
  6. Provide project support by generating work orders, initiating purchase requisitions, and developing Asset/Location Hierarchy within our EAM
  7. Provide supervision to crews in various weather, terrain, and locations on-site
  8. Build CAD drawings for new designs and as-built records
Qualifications
  1. Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related field
  2. Motivated to learn about maintenance and operations of heavy duty fixed plant equipment
  3. Proficient at balancing competing priorities or projects
  4. Able to communicate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand using written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  5. Proficient with MS Office programs and AutoCAD
  6. Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial environment, both indoors and outdoors, and able to operate vehicles in various weather and terrain
  7. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems is an asset
  8. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required
  9. All students will be required to complete a pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.
