Job description

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Salary Range: $4700 - $6000 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to produce detailed plan technical projects on site such as developing maintenance strategies for critical fixed assets.
  • Opportunity to assist in coordination of maintenance projects relating to plant, mine, and maintenance expansions and modifications; responsible for organizing, scheduling, and monitoring the status of maintenance projects
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
  • Troubleshoot current failures and determining root causes
  • Collaborate with engineering and site operations to organize, schedule, manage costs, analyze data, and monitor progress of projects
Qualifications
  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical, and operational personnel
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and a solid understanding of AutoCAD and Solidworks would be advantageous
  • Previous work experience in a technical or engineering environment is an asset
  • Experience with form design, macros, and data analysis is an asset
  • Project management skills is an asset
  • Able to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate with precision in a technical environment
  • Able to articulate sophisticated concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand
  • The ability to speak Spanish is required
