Job Description

Come work & play in beautiful Muskoka! Taboo Muskoka is a privately owned Resort and Golf Operation whose mandate is to 'Create happiness by offering incredible Muskoka experiences to our guests and team.'

Are you fit, handy, and want to turn the 'honey do list' into a paid position?! Taboo Muskoka is looking for someone over 25 years of age with a valid driver's licence (who can drive our vehicles) to assist with pool, building and maintenance repairs, preventative maintenance and respond to guest maintenance requests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Completion of engineering tasks as needed or assigned by the Engineering Director, and/or Supervisor, including but not limited to:
    1. Daily garbage pickup and removal around the resort.
    2. Respond to guest room calls related to minor maintenance requests i.e., changing light bulbs, fix door handles, tightening loose fixings and basic plumbing.
    3. Assist with preventative maintenance throughout resort, golf course and all staff housing properties including painting.
    4. Accurate record keeping on assigned tasks as required.
    5. If qualified, may assist with building electrical mechanical, plumbing repairs.
    6. Snow removal and de-icing of walkways in winter.
    7. Swimming pool maintenance in summer– cleaning pools, changing lights, maintaining filtration and pump systems, cleaning equipment, keeping records of chemical testing.
    8. Painting, carpentry, opening and closing procedures, moving furniture and furniture repairs as required.
    9. Assist other departments and team members as required.
  2. Follow all health and safety and fire safety standards with respect to equipment and facilities. Bringing any risks or contraventions to the attention of the supervisor, manager and/or director.
  3. Health & Safety conscious, document and report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action.
  4. Read and adhere to the Employee Handbook Guidelines, Policies, and procedures.
  5. Embody and uphold Taboo Muskoka brand standards.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
  7. Carrying security phone when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Minimum Grade 12 diploma.
  2. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English.
  3. Certification in pool operation an asset.
  4. Preferable to have experience in a similar setting within the hospitality industry.
  5. Mechanical repair experience and equipment operation.
  6. Valid Ontario “G” class license minimum.
  7. License in any contractor field an asset.
  8. Ability to deal with guests in a positive, professional, courteous and tactful manner.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Workshop environment, electrical and mechanical rooms, outdoors by water or in extreme cool or warm environments in inclement weather, pickup truck, some challenging spaces due to topography of the resort. Handling chemical materials for maintaining water balance in pools. Noisy equipment and temperature fluctuations in pool pump rooms, boiler rooms, working near heavy equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting (up to 100 pounds), twisting, bending, walking up and down stairs, shoveling snow, moving up and down ladders, swimming or in water, carrying heavy items to different locations. Frequent working around dust and insulation wearing PPE. Working outside in inclement weather. Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions. Must be able to work at heights.

HOURS OF WORK

Generally, a Permanent Tuesday to Saturday shift. Hours can change depending on the occupancy of the hotel and seasonal changes. October to April generally days with some holiday cover in evenings. May – Sept some evenings may be required as part of a split shift 3 days/2 evenings. Day shift typically 8am – 4pm. Evening shift (summer) 2pm – 10pm. (winter) Noon to 8pm. Some early shifts may be required during heavy snow forecasts starting at 6am and finishing at 2pm.
