A leading transportation agency in Ontario is seeking an Engineering Analyst to join their Bus Fleet team. Responsibilities

  • Deliver RFPs and technical specifications.

  • Collaborate with the Telematics Lead on fleet technologies.
  • Support onboarding and deployment of the new Diesel Bus program.
  • Prepare reports on trends and data to support decision-making.

  • Clean, transform, and model data to improve quality.

Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Toronto's subway system to get people where they need to go better, faster, and easier. This is an exciting time to join our Asset Management & Maintenance (AM&M) Bus Fleet team. We have secured project approval and budget from our senior leadership to modernize the Metrolinx Bus Fleet. With the introduction of a new fleet pending and multiple new initiatives planned over the next few years, we are seeking an Engineering Analyst to join our growing Bus Fleet team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, this role will involve some hands-on design work. The successful candidate will work with our Asset Management Team and Special Projects Team to develop new Requests for Proposals (RFPs), technical specifications, budgets, and modern analytical tools to enhance the performance and lifespan of the Metrolinx bus fleet.

What will I be doing

  • Working with the Senior Manager to deliver RFPs and technical specifications, building interpersonal and technical skills across departments.
  • Learning to build budgets, analyze projects comprehensively, and monitor these budgets efficiently, including working with Sponsorship Teams to secure funds and presenting to Senior Managers and Directors.
  • Collaborating with the Telematics Lead on new technologies for the fleet, helping to implement collision avoidance technology, and monitoring its effectiveness and compliance.
  • Supporting the onboarding and deployment of the new Diesel Bus program scheduled for Fall/Winter 2025.
  • Developing engineering skills across all three pillars of the Bus Fleet team and supporting various projects.
  • Preparing reports on trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data to support decision-making.
  • Developing reports, dashboards, and visual tools to communicate asset performance and issues.
  • Cleaning, transforming, validating, and modeling data to improve quality, resolving data issues, and supporting recommendations for improvements.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Strong mathematical skills for data collection, measurement, organization, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of Hexagon Infor-EAM is an asset, especially viewing/editing work orders for preventive maintenance.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Oracle, R, MATLAB, Python, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of bus systems and inspection criteria.
  • Proficiency with CAD software like SolidWorks and Inventor.
  • Understanding of database design, data modeling, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, Qlik, or similar.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma.
  • An Engineering degree from a recognized university or equivalent education, training, and experience.
