Northern Strands is growing, and we're on the lookout for a passionate, detail-driven Engineered Fall Protection – Technical Sales, whose primary responsibilities are generating sales leads, completing site assessments, creating solutions to suit customers requirements, generating sales/service quotations, and general project engineering. In addition, the Engineered Fall Protection – Technical Sales representative will build customer relations and sales networks and provide knowledge and understanding of height safety requirements. This position also provides backup and support to the Field Services Manager from a sales and design perspective.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Generate sales leads and field calls from customers
  • Build and maintain customer relations
  • Prepare quotations for clients that outline components and services required including issuing requests for competitive pricing on materials and subcontracted services
  • Conduct site surveys and customer consultations, prepare detailed field drawings, and determine needs and solutions
  • Participate in site meetings for projects to gather requirements as outlined by the architect and/or contractor
  • Review engineered drawings and tender packages to gather information pertinent to the estimation process
  • Develop or review project close-out post-mortems and lessons learned to implement findings into future proposals as part of the company’s continuous improvement initiatives
  • Aid with engineering design and technical support for the construction of fall protection projects
  • Assist more experienced technical personnel with specific aspects of more complex designs
  • Liaise with Crew Supervisor, Engineering/Drafting and Fabrication to develop solutions and troubleshoot issues on projects
  • Establish and maintain current knowledge and firm understanding of products and services available
  • Attend trade shows and seminars as a representative of Northern Strands
  • Establish and maintain current knowledge and firm understanding of legislation and standards and ensure that others are aware of those changes including customers, vendors and colleagues
  • Travel throughout Saskatchewan and into Manitoba and Alberta as required
  • Working closely with Project Coordinator(s) on the planning and execution phases of the work as required
  • Complete in-person or virtual lunch & learns for new and prospective clients which showcase Northern Strands Engineered Fall Protection division capabilities and offerings
  • Provide timely and complete internal reporting
  • Perform other duties to support the Engineered Fall Protection division and Northern Strands Group of Companies as required

What You Bring To The Table

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is considered an asset
  • Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-In-Training with APEGS is considered an asset
  • 2-4+ years experience in a related role is considered an asset
  • Technical background in a construction or mining project environment is considered an asset
  • Ability to read, review, and interpret engineered construction drawings is required
  • Ability to transfer concepts and communicate ideas through physical and digital means (hand/digital sketches, CAD software, etc.)
  • Knowledge of construction and engineering processes applicable to fall protection systems
  • Proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) CRM, and order systems
  • Ability to quickly grasp occupational health and safety regulations, fall protection standards and other corresponding regulation codes, and apply in customer dealings and product applications
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines managing all areas of the project process, from prospecting to closing
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks, or Engineering Technologist Diploma is considered an asset
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking
  • Willingness to learn and expand knowledge base
  • Confident and articulate in written and verbal communications
  • Demonstrate ability to interact directly with clients
  • Maintain existing and build new client relationships while skillfully interpreting and advising to meet client needs
