Job description

The Welding Engineer is a welding specialist with experience of all aspects of typical shipbuilding fusion joining processes. They will provide subject matter expertise and be responsible for supervision of Welder Technicians during testing activities. The Welding Engineer will work with stakeholders to assure welding quality and to provide field support to production.

The Welding Engineer will lead projects to develop welding technologies to enable welding for new applications. Within the oversight of the Lead Welding Engineer or Welding Manager, they will design welding development plans, run weld procedure testing, write weld procedures, and provide production support. Accountable for deliverables in the 3-12 month time frame.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Specialist training in Welding Engineering, CWB Recognition is desirable.
  • P.Eng designation required.
  • 5+ of Shipbuilding or relevant engineering experience is desirable.
  • An excellent knowledge of FCAW and GTAW, with automatic and mechanized weld experience being desirable.
  • Knowledge of weld procedure development in accordance with classification society material rules or equivalent national standards.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, SharePoint, ability to independently learn to operate new technical software packages.
  • Ability to resolve technical welding and material problems to achieve first time quality.
  • Shipbuilding / Manufacturing Knowledge related to welding.
  • Demonstrate knowledge relating practical aspects of welding and inspection.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications and structural and outfit drawings.
  • Technical communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in accessible format.
  • Organizational skills.
