Competition # E22281-2026

At NB Power we are a team, committed to offering the best customer experience, ensuring energy security, and accelerating a sustainable clean energy transition. Why? Because we’re New Brunswickers too, we care about our customers and future generations, and today we are actively looking for new members to join us.

The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR). The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete overtime.

As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, the Engineer V will lead a team of engineers responsible for all aspects of design and construction of project work. This includes ensuring NB Power is prepared to complete the preliminary designs required and overseeing and coordinating all design and construction work performed by external consultants to ensure safety, environment, quality, efficiency, and compliance with organizational standards.

Mechanical Engineering key functions include:
  • Lead a team of discipline-specific engineers while engaging stakeholders across all project phases, ensuring technical expertise is applied from planning through close-out.
  • Review designs, and oversee installation and commissioning of turbines, hydraulic gates, cranes, and mechanical systems, while weighing alternatives and approving consultant-provided design solutions on behalf of NB Power.
  • Provide field support during construction by managing Request for Information (RFIs), monitoring contractor quality, adapting to changed conditions, and delivering recommendations on multidisciplinary technical issues to senior project leadership for resolution.
Our ideal teammate will have:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer licensed in New Brunswick or eligible for immediate transfer
  • Eight years of experience with any of large hydraulic gate design and installation, large cranes, turbines, balance of plant mechanical systems (fire protection, drainage, piping, pumps, HVAC) as well as mechanical/instrumentation construction oversight
  • Participation in design teams during planning, detailed design, execution, and close-out phases of mega-projects
  • Providing technical guidance during construction, including responding to RFIs, managing contractor quality programs, handling changed conditions and knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of discipline specific engineers
Civil Engineering key functions include:
  • Lead a team of discipline-specific engineers while engaging stakeholders across all project phases, ensuring technical expertise is applied from planning through close-out.
  • Review designs and oversee the design and construction of reinforced concrete, structural steel, earthworks, and dam-related activities, applying geotechnical insights and mitigation strategies for AAR concrete effects, while weighing alternatives and approving consultant-provided solutions on behalf of NB Power.
  • Provide field support during construction by managing RFIs, monitoring contractor quality, adapting to changed conditions, and delivering recommendations on multidisciplinary technical issues to senior project leadership for resolution.
