Job Summary:
The Engineer, Technical Development & Standards is accountable for researching, developing, and implementing tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This role involves preparing project plans, costs, and schedules, and providing contract management and project coordination services to ensure alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Conduct studies and develop standards to facilitate Transmission Line design, construction, and operation/maintenance.
- Perform required studies and assessments impacting the strategic directions for building and operating transmission lines 138kV and above.
- Develop standards related to Transmission Line design, construction, foundations, structure strategies, application guides, quality control, and operation and maintenance standards.
- Develop procurement strategies for Transmission Lines 138 kV and above, including technical specifications, evaluation criteria, vendor negotiations, contract awards, factory acceptance testing, and managing contract and commissioning activities.
- Provide guidance to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff.
- Provide direction to staff, consultants, and external technical agencies as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical).
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
- Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.).
- Experience in planning, designing, constructing, operating, commissioning facilities, and managing technical aspects of complex projects.
- Demonstrated competency in engineering, industry standards, trends, and internal processes.
- Ability to provide recommendations and influence decision-making.
- Strong relationships with internal and external partners.
- Leadership skills, including coaching and development of technical staff.
- Expertise in complex technical issues.
- Results-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, project management, and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to safety, innovation, and teamwork.
- Continuous professional development.
