Job description

Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to lead post-silicon power characterization and correlation activities for cutting-edge semiconductor products. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing detailed power measurement strategies on silicon, correlating results with pre-silicon models, and driving improvements across power architecture, design, and modeling methodologies. You will serve as a key technical leader, interfacing across design, architecture, validation, and systems teams to ensure silicon meets power and performance specifications under all operating conditions.

This role ison-site, based out of Toronto, Canada.

We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting.

Responsibilities:

  • Own post-silicon power measurement strategy from planning through execution across various operating modes and workloads.
  • Develop lab infrastructure, automated workflows, and data analysis pipelines to support high-fidelity power characterization.
  • Correlate post-silicon power data to pre-silicon simulations (RTL, gate-level, and sign-off models), identifying discrepancies and driving root cause analysis.
  • Partner with pre-silicon modeling and architecture teams to refine power estimation models based on silicon learning.
  • Characterize power behavior under voltage, frequency, temperature, and process variation to support design margining and product qualification.
  • Work hands-on with silicon bring-up teams to develop test content and debug power anomalies across IP and SoC levels.
  • Document findings and present power characterization reports to senior technical and management teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in power measurement accuracy, correlation methodology, and design-for-characterization capabilities.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience focused on silicon power analysis and characterization.
  • Strong understanding of digital and mixed-signal silicon power domains, including DVFS, leakage/dynamic power, and power gating.
  • Proficiency in lab-based power measurement techniques and use of precision instruments (oscilloscopes, current probes, power analyzers, SMUs).
  • Demonstrated experience correlating post-silicon data with pre-silicon EDA tools and power estimation methodologies (e.g., RTL/Gate-level simulation, vector-based/average power).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Perl, MATLAB) for test automation and data analytics.
  • Strong debug, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
