Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact:

Kinectrics is searching for a Junior or Intermediate engineer/scientist to join the Experimental Development and Application (EDA) service line. The main responsibility is to perform experimental R&D programs to study degradation mechanisms of CANDU fuel channel materials, and in particular, CANDU pressure tube materials.

  • Reporting to the Service Line Leader, prepare proposals, provide assistance, or directly manage multiple technical projects of varying complexity to achieve the defined objectives of technical scope, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Communicate with Service Line Leader, Project Leaders, Project Sponsors and Customers.
  • Ensure staff and customers are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and vendor resources as appropriate.
  • Evaluate project and lessons learned via post-project review processes.
  • Provide feedback to Service Line Leader regarding teamwork performance.
  • Provide support to Project Leaders as required to close all project documentation and archive appropriate records.
  • Design, develop and improve test methods, test techniques, and test facilities.
  • Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports.
  • Other duties will be assigned as needed.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Physics, with specialization in subjects such as: mechanical properties of materials, solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, corrosion, phase transformation, advanced material characterization techniques, such as SEM, EDS, TEM, FIB, Synchrotron X-Ray.
  • Knowledge of CANDU fuel channels, zirconium alloys, and the behavior of hydrogen in metals is an asset.
  • A minimum of two 1st author technical publications are required.
  • Requires a good knowledge of instrumentation and electronics.
  • Demonstrated computer skills for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with colleagues and customers, technical report preparation, development of laboratory and testing procedures, reporting of results, etc.
  • Eligibility for PEO License is required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills such as time management, goal orientation and action focused, pragmatic and self-disciplined, clearing of bottlenecks, providing feedback, team building, planning and scheduling work, delegation, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience preparing Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) & Pre-Job briefings for Potential Safety, Health and Environmental Hazards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with various QA programs (ISO 9001, Z299.1, N285.0).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team to perform engineering consulting services, including execution of work, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities to meet tight deadlines.
  • A self-starter driven to tackle challenging problems.
  • A period of up to 4 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
