Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Engineer, Quality Control will be the main contact for ship repair quality data, metrics, and improvement initiatives. They will support AOPS and RCD, and be responsible for developing and maintaining recurring executive metrics for all sites, performing data analytics, root cause analysis, and lessons learned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan, organize, and coordinate metrics, utilizing automation for recurring metrics. Set expectations and accountability for completion. Ensure quality and timeliness of work within budgeted parameters. Support scheduling for AOPS QCTC and ship repair during heavy inspection schedules.
  2. Communicate with Team Leader of Quality Engineering, production managers, and supervisors to achieve and maintain smooth workflow and high productivity for AOPS and ship repair.
  3. Foster an environment focused on process improvement initiatives internally and externally for AOPS and ship repair. Support process and procedure documentation to stabilize and control processes.
  4. Support the Inspection and Test Plan. Read and interpret production drawings and specifications to identify quality requirements for inspections.
  5. Collaborate with production staff to provide quality data supporting business goals. Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with production stakeholders for AOPS and ship repair.
  6. Assist team members with complex cross-functional improvement projects, standardization, and mitigation plans. Conduct root cause analysis and implement lessons learned from production and customer feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent; professional engineer designation (P. Eng.) or ability to obtain.
  • Training and experience in lean/six sigma or other improvement methodologies, e.g., lean, green, or black belt, or interest in obtaining such certifications.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methodologies and experience in a shipbuilding environment.
  • 4-7 years of experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, construction, or relevant industrial environments with a focus on quality assurance and control.
  • Experience as a Quality Engineer or subject matter expert in business systems.
  • Ability to coach and lead technical and non-technical improvement projects using structured methodologies.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills for complex issues.
  • Confidence in making and advising on risk-based technical decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for complex issues with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capability to coach and mentor stakeholders across functions.
