Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Engineer, Production Norms designs and plans processes, tools, and equipment needed for high-quality, efficient planning, construction, repair, testing/commissioning, and delivery of ships. They may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices. The role involves working within theoretical, practical, and/or lean engineering disciplines in a shipbuilding environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and improve norms calculator(s) related to hull structure and steel outfitting.
  • Support review and development of new norms as needed.
  • Monitor production activities and develop time studies to support norms refinement and process development.
  • Support development of structural steel production processes and work instructions to enhance efficiencies.
  • Provide training and support to planning teams on norm calculation tools.
  • Host engagement sessions with production stakeholders to review baseline norms and calculator outputs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent. Alternative educational backgrounds may be considered with relevant work experience.
  • Applied experience with hull structure and/or steel outfitting.
  • Understanding of scheduling, ability to meet strict deadlines, and manage & develop schedules.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, and resource capacity.
  • Some exposure to or interest in the marine field through work experience or academic study.
