Qualifications

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Engineer - Metallurgy to join our Process Technology team in Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a permanent position, working a Monday to Friday day shift.

The Engineer – Metallurgy provides support to the Operating and Maintenance departments in the areas of safety, process troubleshooting and process optimization. This role adds value by providing technical support to the Smelter or Matte Processing Section Leaders and Operating Superintendents through project work laid out in the yearly project plan. The incumbent recommends corrective actions based on available data, analysis and industrial experience. The incumbent assists in the development of work plans, schedules, prioritization and execution of continuous improvement and major process improvement projects. The role requires the ability to work with peers from all other departments within a dynamic industrial environment.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Theoretical and industrial exposure to metals processing, with an emphasis on nonferrous pyrometallurgy and/or mineral separation (flotation).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Proven ability to perform complex technical work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as statistical and thermodynamic software packages an asset.
  • Safety. Contributes to H&S of all employees in their area through participation in safety plans, process monitoring, MOC's, process hazard analysis, etc.
  • Planning. Contributes to R&D plans, capital planning, business plans, implementation plans, etc.
  • Operations. Supports Operations in all aspects required to meet budgets, plans, safety commitments, etc.
  • Costs & Revenue Generation. Supports Operations and Others as required to maximize ability to achieve business goals.
  • People. Achieve results by working within cross-functional team environment. Coach, mentor, supervise and lead indirect reports. Identify and help develop potential of junior team members and co-workers.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Chemical or Metallurgical engineering
  • Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng)

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Mineral Processing experience preferred.
  • Position level (Engineer/Senior Engineer) contingent upon experience.
