Job Summary:
The Engineer (Material) will be responsible for managing and optimizing material-related processes within Cragar Industries. This role ensures the quality, availability, and compliance of raw materials used in medical device production, while supporting cross-functional teams in procurement, inspection, logistics, and engineering coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Material Engineering Duties:
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials for medical device components based on drawings requirement, regulatory, and cost criteria.
- Develop and maintain material specifications and documentation in compliance with ISO 13485 regulatory requirements.
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations related to material issues.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to support new product development and process improvements.
Procurement & Inspection:
- Oversee procurement of raw materials for medical device component production, ensuring timely availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Manage incoming inspection of all raw materials to ensure conformance to specifications and regulatory standards.
Supply Chain & Logistics Support:
- Support Supply Chain Management (SCM) in coordinating with customers on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and Third-Party Logistics (3PL) matters.
- Assist in all shipment-related activities, e.g. declaration of HS codes for customer deliveries.
Vendor & Engineering Collaboration:
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers regarding fixtures, gauges, and other material-related tooling.
- Support Engineering and Quality Control (QC) teams in all matters related to Request for Quotation (RFQ) processes.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in material engineering or mechanical engineering, preferably in a MedTech or regulated manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of material properties, testing methods, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA).
- Experience with procurement systems, inspection protocols, and supply chain coordination.
- Familiarity with HS code classification and international shipping documentation.
