PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Are you a recent Civil Engineering graduate looking to kick-start your career in a hands-on, fast-paced environment? CPKC is looking for an Engineer in Training to join our team and help shape the future of railway infrastructure. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is P.Eng eligible, passionate about transportation systems, and eager to grow through mentorship and real-world project experience.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the execution of assigned projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget
  • Supervise and coordinate with engineering consultants
  • Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, memos, and external correspondence
  • Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and customers
  • Provide on-site construction management and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Support Business Development with third-party customer projects
  • Perform on-site safety audits and efficiency assessments, while engaging with union personnel to ensure alignment with safety protocols and project goals
  • Field travel as needed to project sites to familiarize yourself with the territory
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support 24/7 operations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Civil (Mechanical or Industrial backgrounds will be considered)
  • Must be P.Eng eligible
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience (co-op experience considered)
  • Valid driver's license

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety-sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
