Here's how an Engineer in Training for our Edmonton Industrial Management office contributes to our team:


Responsibilities

  1. Provides technical support for the design of construction engineering solutions and procedures.
  2. Provides construction engineer support and constructability analysis for the implementation and removal of construction systems.
  3. Provide construction engineering support on test blind and test manifold designs, pneumatic test procedures (IND).
  4. Contributes to the internal engineering reference material databases and libraries.
  5. Stays current with industry practices, codes, and standards.
  6. Works directly with project teams to produce engineering deliverables.
  7. Implements engineering technology and application software for construction engineering applications.
  8. Ensure all documents are maintained and stored according to the construction engineering document control procedures.
  9. Develops and maintains strong stakeholder relationships.
  10. Values and models the solution provider and profitability culture.
  11. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a 4-year accredited university degree in Civil, Structural, or a related engineering discipline; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation is required.
  2. Foundational knowledge of construction, including specifications, drawings, codes, standards, and regulations relevant to PCL’s operational regions.
  3. General awareness of materials and methods such as steel, concrete, wood, scaffolding, shoring, formwork, fall protection, cranes, geotechnical considerations, pneumatic testing, and single isolation (IND).
  4. Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills; capable of multitasking and prioritizing workload effectively.
  5. Proficient in analytical thinking and structural design; effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Skilled in drafting, model viewing, and BIM platforms; familiar with in-house or third-party construction engineering software.
  7. Able to work both independently and collaboratively in team environments.
  8. Understands constructability challenges and engineering concerns; capable of monitoring project resources and staffing in collaboration with operations.
  9. Familiar with building construction processes and components across project phases; supports departmental planning and initiatives.
  10. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; eager and comfortable with self-directed learning and professional growth.
