Description

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Engineer III to join our growing Civil Design team in Vernon Hills, IL.

What you can expect:

The Civil Design Engineer III will report to a Senior Project Manager and perform engineering design tasks for a wide variety of municipal engineering projects, capital improvement projects, and site design projects for educational, institutional, healthcare, recreational, residential, retail, and commercial land development projects. This role is an exempt, salaried position. We offer a hybrid work environment.

  • Mentor and train junior-level engineers.
  • Oversee the creation of engineering documents using AutoCAD software.
  • Coordinate and prioritize multiple project deadlines while adhering to company and project standards.
  • Communicate and meet with project clients to discuss project progress and requirements.
  • Aid in the preparation of project proposals and documentation.

Qualifications

What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Experience and Licensure:

  • Four (4) years of civil engineering, municipal engineering, or design experience including two (2) years as a major contributor on contract deliverable development or project leader.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or another state with the ability to obtain licensure in Illinois within 6 months.
  • Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and registered insured personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply engineering criteria and standards to lead the development of technical documents across select engineering disciplines.
  • Lead the development of technical documents frequently requiring the use of engineering design software.
  • Possess an understanding of typical workflows with low complexity projects.
  • Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that will work in a collaborative environment completing engineering design tasks according to scope/schedule/effort expectations with limited oversight.
  • Ability to manage personal schedule to adhere to multiple project deadlines while communicating progress status.
  • Assist in project-related communication and meetings with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to technically mentor and train junior-level engineers.
  • Assist in the development of portions of project proposals.
  • Proficiency with software products:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)
