Job Description:

Microchip’s Communications Business Unit (CBU) is looking for junior engineers to fill multiple roles as Semiconductor Design & Verification Engineers – Entry/Junior Level in Montreal, Quebec Canada. CBU is a premier supplier for 100Gbps+ Optical Networking & Connectivity Semiconductor Solutions for Telecom & Hyperscale Data Center Networks. Our devices enable high-bandwidth, cloud-based applications such as streaming services, social media platforms, and video conferencing. The CBU Product Development team is engaged through the entire semiconductor R&D cycle of concept, design, verification, and implementation stages. Once a prototype is available, the team supports embedded software development and system validation lab testing through to mass-market production release. We are an experienced chip team working with the latest semiconductor development tools and methodologies in advanced process technologies to develop state-of-the-art network devices. As a junior engineer, you will innovate via digital design and the testing of circuits implementing features related to our semiconductor products. You will be guided by architects and lead engineers and will collaborate with other team members to deliver complex designs in a friendly and professional environment. Candidates of interest will have a background in hardware design, software development, or hardware verification. Job responsibilities may include:

  1. Understand the requirements & functional description of the device to ensure compliance with specifications and error-free functionality.
  2. Develop a digital circuit with System Verilog to process a new protocol or to increase processing speed of an existing design.
  3. Develop a component of a virtual testbench that will generate or monitor complex stimuli driven to the digital circuit, using C++, System Verilog, and UVM.
  4. Develop and execute a verification plan, using System Verilog and functional coverage.
  5. Develop low-level functions for the embedded processor on a chip.
  6. Collaborate with Software and Validation to deliver devices that integrate into a wider system.
  7. Participate in Product Validation during the prototype stage of development.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Academic experience in digital design, VLSI, computer architecture, embedded programming, or object-oriented modeling are desired.
  • Experience with Hardware Descriptive Languages (HDL) such as System Verilog, Verilog, or VHDL is required. Candidates are expected to know how HDL languages simulate and map to digital logic.
  • Interest in abstract modeling of design functionality via software object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of verification methodologies such as UVM is an asset.
  • FPGA development exposure with Synopsys, Cadence, Mentor, or Xilinx tool suites is an asset.
  • Understand digital hardware architectures and logic (State-machines, RAMs, Registers, and bus architectures).
  • Experience with control revision tools such as Subversion or Git is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a Linux shell environment and Linux scripting (CSH/TCL/Perl/Python) is required.
  • Must be self-driven & proactive with a desire to understand, learn more, do more & make a difference.
  • Excellent analytical and debugging skills with the ability to proactively solve issues is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English.
