PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Engineer Bridge Inspection is responsible for completing scheduled, periodic, and emergency railroad bridge inspections and providing feedback based on observed field conditions. They provide training, qualification, and oversight for field maintenance employees; and facilitates action plans based on detailed inspection results with the Railroad Bridge Engineer. This position comes with a company vehicle and paid traveling expenses. You can be headquartered out of Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Complete bridge inspections in accordance with FRA Bridge Safety standards and CPKC Bridge Safety Management Plan Policy
  • Audit bridge maintenance/renewal work for compliance with CPKC Structures Red Book
  • Make recommendations to territory Manager Bridge Maintenance in regards the inspection and maintenance of bridges
  • Complete inspections of railroad bridges, overhead highway structures, culverts, retaining walls, and turntables
  • Directing assignment, use, and operation of Bridge Inspection Vehicle
  • Establish/manage relationships with their Engineering counterparts on their geographic territory
  • Required to request and acquire all necessary track authorities to conduct on-track bridge inspections

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural, geotechnical or construction management (preferred)
  • Experience in railroad bridge inspection, maintenance or construction
  • Ability to inspect bridges at heights and wear fall protection
  • CA passport (or able to acquire one) to travel cross border to United States and Mexico
  • Valid driver’s license (with no restrictions)

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
