Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

To deliver instrumentation & control engineering expertise to power generation utilities and other customers. The specific accountabilities of the position are as follows:

  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the Engineering team.
  • Provide a high level of expertise in one or more specific areas related to electrical/I&C engineering, e.g., control instrumentation assessment/design/specification of equipment and components, electrical power generation and distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of control system design, analysis and equipment including control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), advanced control theory etc.
  • Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance/direction on projects and act as design team lead where appropriate.
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Stay current with developments within their field of expertise.
  • Regular travel/visits to client sites in Durham region is required as well as occasional travel within the GTA.
  • Other duties as required.
What You Need to Succeed
  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Electrical/I&C Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
  • A period of 5+ years relevant experience is considered necessary.
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering.
  • Experience with projects related to heavy industry, nuclear refurbishment, new build design or SMR design experience is required.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards (e.g. N299 and CSA N286), as applied to nuclear plant and conventional plants.
  • Experience in control system theory, analysis and design is required
  • Experience in project management and interfacing with and coordinating activities of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and experience working with nuclear power plant systems & processes(Bruce Power, OPG, NB Power or other), e.g. Engineering Change Control is an asset.
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
  • Good understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation.
  • Experience in leading technical projects to successful conclusion.
  • Assist in development of proposals and negotiation of contracts with clients
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead complex and/or multi-discipline projects.
  • Innovative, enthusiastic and ready to be part of our dynamic team.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
  • Must be motivated by working with engineering professionals committed to producing timely and high-quality technical work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be a team player.
  • OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.
