Job Description
We are currently hiring an EMSL/ Core Engineering Technologist in Ottawa. As part of our Manufacturing and Operations team, this role is fully on-site and 40 hours a week. You will be part of a team that works closely together to achieve department goals. This workforce includes Production Controllers, Master Schedulers, Shipping & Receiving Specialists, Assemblers, Technologists, Repair & Overhaul experts, and Product & Mechanical Engineers. If you thrive in a busy manufacturing environment and hands-on work, this is a role for you. Tasks include:
- Assisting the principal Point-of-Contact with asset acquisition, calibration/repair, auditing, tracking/control, reassignment, shipping, and disposal. This includes inventory management, reporting, and customer relations for EMSL service requests.
- Supporting the execution of annual calibration events for facilities.
- Operating, testing, installing, and maintaining test equipment using standard approaches, with guidance from others.
- Performing preventive maintenance and repairs on manufacturing core equipment and assembly tools, maintaining system software backups, and updating to the latest versions.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues, troubleshooting circuits from system to component level, and performing rework/repairs (e.g., mechanical assembly).
- Recording, understanding, and interpreting schematic diagrams, drawings, parts lists, bills of materials, assembly processes, quality tracking systems, failure reports, quality charts, process routing sheets, acceptance test procedures, and calibration/test results.
- Troubleshooting complex circuits, equipment, and tools, performing rework as needed, and resolving technical issues.
- Conducting data analysis using software tools and providing technical summary reports.
- Creating or updating departmental instructions, calibration procedures, ESD procedures, and equipment maintenance procedures, including ESS equipment.
- Performing calibration, ESD testing, verification, audits, preventative and corrective maintenance, and running self-tests on various machinery and peripherals, documenting results appropriately.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Requires a three-year College Diploma as an Electronics Engineering Technologist or Electrical Engineering Technologist, or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of related calibration work experience, including manufacturing core equipment.
- 2 years of experience in:
- Obtaining quotes, placing orders, and following up with suppliers;
- Creating/updating departmental instructions, calibration procedures, ESD procedures, and maintenance procedures;
- System diagnostics programming (e.g., LabVIEW, C, C++), repair, and improvement.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Work Environment:
- Extensive sitting at workstations or equipment (approx. 60%) involving computer work. Repetitive hand/finger movements required. Ability to handle/push carts over 50 lbs at times.
- High visual concentration required for troubleshooting, data capture, and analysis.
- Approximately 25% office work, with the remainder on the production floor troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, and auditing equipment and tools.
