Empower Excellence School - Permanent Designated Early Childhood Educator

Under the direction of the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator will work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning program within a classroom setting. They will provide supervision and age-appropriate programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program, as required. The Early Childhood Educator will collaborate in the design of programs and environments which will enhance children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively build a welcoming, inclusive classroom that prioritizes relationships, student voice, and well-being
  • Facilitate small group and individual learning to support differentiated instruction
  • Integrate materials, provocations, and hands-on learning experiences into classroom centers
  • Embed language and numeracy skill-building through play, routines, and inquiry
  • Co-plan and co-deliver engaging programming grounded in UDL and anti-oppressive practices
  • Use pedagogical documentation to monitor and guide programming
  • Communicate regularly with families to strengthen learning and well-being partnerships
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student engagement and success
  • Identify and dismantle barriers to equity, ensuring all students’ identities, humanity, and potential are affirmed

Qualifications And Additional Information

  • Two-year college Early Childhood Education Diploma;
  • Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day Early Learning Program;
  • Child care experience in an educational setting preferred;
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and the public;
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality;
  • Ability to follow directions, policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate programs;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Strong organization and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program;
  • Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting, bending, crouching, reaching, etc.).
  • Assist children in washroom routines, dressing, toileting, lunchtime activities;
  • Flexibility in meeting the diverse needs of learners
  • Success in creating safe, identity-affirming, and engaging classroom environments
