Job summary

Asset Living is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel (Employment & Labor) to partner with HR and operations across a multi-state footprint. The attorney will handle agency charges, pre-suit resolutions, and lead litigation/arbitration management with outside counsel.

JD from an ABA-accredited law school with 3–5 years in employment and labor law is required. Travel up to 10% may be needed; the role is safety-sensitive and reports to the General Counsel.

Qualifications

• JD from ABA-accredited law school is required.
• 3–5 years of employment and labor law experience in law firm or in-house.
• Experience in property management, real estate, or multi-site industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directly report to General Counsel and assist CEO/Board on material legal matters.
• Manage agency charges before EEOC, state and local agencies; draft statements and represent the company in mediation.
• Evaluate and respond to demand letters; negotiate settlements and draft releases.
• Oversee wage-and-hour class and collective actions; coordinate with outside counsel and monitor budgets.
• Coordinate preservation and production of documents; prepare employees for depositions and respond to subpoenas.
• Engage outside counsel as needed; review invoices and ensure efficient handling of matters.
• Advise on terminations, investigations, and leave programs under multi-state laws.
• Draft and update employee handbook and HR policies; stay compliant across states.
• Assist with EPLI and insurance claims; collaborate with broker and carrier counsel.
• Provide practical legal advice to HR and management; support strategic decisions.
• Travel up to 10% of time for property visits or internal meetings.
