Salary: G7: $54,097.76

Program Overview – Integrated Employment Services, Community Programs

The Employment Consultant, Internationally Trained Professionals (ITP), is a role within the Integrated Employment Services (IES) program and a newcomer employment initiative dedicated to internationally trained professionals. The Employment Consultant is part of a high-performance team that enhances communities, families, and individual lives through effective access to employment. Based at a local Integrated Employment Services Centre or other sites in Toronto, they support internationally trained professionals to improve their competitiveness and access to priority occupations, assisting them in securing quality, sustainable employment.

What You Will Do

  1. Build rapport and provide emotional support to clients, fostering trust and engagement in the job search process, and helping them build motivation and confidence.
  2. Ensure clients understand the Integrated Employment Services approach and the benefits of the services, including retention support.
  3. Create equity in service delivery, promoting inclusion and equitable outcomes for all jobseekers.
  4. Collaborate with other Employment Consultants and the Practice Lead for Newcomer Employment to develop and deliver tailored employment workshops and mentorship opportunities.
  5. Manage a caseload of jobseekers at various stages of readiness, utilizing effective time management and planning to advance clients toward employment efficiently.
  6. Maintain accountability for monthly targets related to client intake and employment outcomes.
  7. Offer diverse workshops and training activities in various formats (e.g., one-on-one, group, virtual, online) to support clients' understanding of the Canadian labour market, employment standards, and workplace culture.
  8. Administer the Province of Ontario’s Common Assessment Tool and facilitate client intake into the program.
  9. Support clients through individualized appointments and group activities to progress toward employment, adhering to program guidelines and procedures.
  10. Coordinate and deliver services based on client needs, especially for the newcomer inclusion group.
  11. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills in developing employment action plans, needs assessments, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and online job search techniques.
  12. Engage with employers to identify job opportunities, understand their needs, advocate for clients, and facilitate interviews.
  13. Collaborate with social assistance caseworkers to coordinate support services for clients on OW/ODSP, following guidelines and procedures.
  14. Assist clients in using onsite computers for job search activities as needed.
  15. Complete all documentation and data entry accurately and promptly, following funders’ and organization’s standards.
  16. Work collaboratively with Job Developers, Career Success Coaches, and other staff to ensure effective case management and positive client outcomes.
  17. Coordinate with the appointment booking team, settlement counselors, financial empowerment counselors, volunteers, and other staff to ensure a smooth client experience.
  18. Provide customer service support at the front desk and participate in outreach activities.
  19. Engage in ongoing training and participate in supervisory sessions.
  20. Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Degree or diploma in Social Work, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Experience or training in career counselling, especially for mid-career professionals with international training and work experience.
  • Experience leading group workshops or activities.
  • Knowledge of labour market trends, particularly for vulnerable populations such as youth, newcomers, OW/ODSP recipients, and the long-term unemployed.
  • Understanding of pre-employment support methods and re-training opportunities.
