Job summary

ACCES Employment in Barrie is seeking an Employment Consultant to deliver integrated employment services for clients pursuing roles in the construction and skilled trades sector. You will collaborate with project teams, employers and partners to prepare clients for sustainable employment.

The role requires post-secondary education or equivalent experience, knowledge of the trades, and strong communication and outreach skills.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Career and Work Counseling, Social Services, Adult Education, or a related field and/or 5 years related work experience.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and skilled trades sector, including labour market trends, training pathways, and employer needs, is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in supporting job seekers facing complex barriers, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), newcomers, and other individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Integrated Employment Services (IES) is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Employment Ontario programs is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and self-management skills to work effectively with clients, co-workers, outside agencies, and employers.
  • Thorough knowledge of all facets of job search and career development including an understanding of labour market trends and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct outreach marketing of clients and services to employers.
  • Experience in case and file management is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intake and assessment, one-to-one and group employment counselling, and referrals.
  • Facilitate workshops to market clients to employers and help them find and maintain employment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and partners for referrals.
  • Maintain an active caseload and manage files efficiently.
  • Advocate for clients in areas of employment, skills training, and equitable access to services.
  • Meet monthly statistical requirements and track activities accurately.
  • Conduct needs assessments and career testing in various settings.
  • Provide professional support using ACCES resource services.
  • Develop relationships with private and public sector employers to market services and place clients.
  • Participate as a constructive member of the employment consulting team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Employment Consultant is responsible for providing integrated employment services for clients who are pursuing employment in the construction and skilled trades sector. The individual in this position will work in collaboration with their project team, employers, community partners, and other ACCES employees to help clients prepare for and secure sustainable employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide culturally sensitive employment services including intake and assessment, one-to-one and group employment counseling, and referrals.
  • Facilitate workshops that will prepare clients to market themselves to employers and to find and maintain employment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and partners to make appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain an active caseload, including all file management responsibilities.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients whenever necessary, including support in areas of employment, skills training, social assistance, and equitable access to services.
  • Meet monthly statistical requirements and maintain professional and effective information tracking systems on all activities performed.
  • Conduct needs assessments and career testing in individual and/or group settings.
  • Provide professional support to clients using ACCES resource services.
  • Develop relationships with private and public sector employers in order to market ACCES services and clients and place clients in jobs.
  • Participate fully and responsibly as an equal member of an employment consulting team.
  • And other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in MS Office, with experience using online platforms and database management systems such as Salesforce, and EOIS-CaMS.
  • Online facilitation experience is a strong asset (in particular, experience with using Zoom, MS Teams, and Webex).
  • Fluency in a second language will be considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to itinerant service locations in Bradford and/or Orangeville as well as partner organizations throughout the region.

Job status: Unionized
Contract Duration: 1-year contract with opportunity for extension
Salary: $59,658.42 per annum (as per Union salary grid), prorated to contract duration

This position is fully onsite. The work schedule may change based on business requirements.
