About the role

Status : 5 Month Fixed Term

Location : In Office / Burnaby BC

As an Employment Consultant, you'll be responsible for providing a solution-focused approach to assisting clients in finding and maintaining employment. You will work with an assigned caseload of clients facing multiple barriers to employment and provide a range of supports to clients and their employers to ensure clients maintain their employment. You will develop positive relationships with clients, encouraging, motivating, and supporting them to achieve sustainable employment and increase independence and self-sufficiency.

If you have a background in social services, community services, sales, customer service (particularly recruitment), education, or human resources, you may find you have the skills needed to be a successful Employment Consultant!

What you'll do

  • Contribute to monthly individual and team KPIs while managing a challenging workload through prioritization and effective time management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders to generate and manage client referrals.
  • Conduct assessments to understand and document clients' employment-related strengths, needs, abilities, skills, and other relevant factors.
  • Support the development of an individualized Employment Action Plan for each client.
  • Maintain regular face-to-face contact, providing pre-employment assistance, vocational advice, job search training, skill development, work preparation, and other activities outlined in the Employment Action Plan.
  • Support clients with awareness and navigation, including accessing community resources to improve job readiness.
  • Conduct initial employer on-site visits to ensure optimal working conditions for clients.
  • Assist clients and/or employers in resolving issues impacting employment retention.
  • Identify and arrange accommodations and supports necessary for clients to continue employment.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training to support job retention, including on-the-job training.
  • Provide services in a welcoming, safe, and professional manner, ensuring client privacy.

Qualifications : What you bring

Education Requirement :

  • Post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in a relevant field such as career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education, or human resources management.
  • Experience Requirements :

  • Strong desire to help those facing unemployment.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex barriers and diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Strong digital literacy, including MS Office.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Employment conditional on criminal record check.
  • Ability to work outside regular hours, including shifts and evenings.
  • Preferred :

  • Experience in client assessments, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of local labour market, community resources, government programs, job search techniques, and career development.
  • Experience with interviews, assessments, resume writing, vocational counselling, and goal setting.
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) certification.
  • Bilingual/multilingual skills (especially Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, or Arabic).
