Employer Paid Education Opportunity - Remote Certification

About us
The First Nations Health Authority is a diverse and transformational health organization of professional, innovative, and dedicated team members and leaders.

The first of its kind in Canada, FNHA works as a health-and-wellness partner with BC First Nations to support self-determination and decision-making to improve health outcomes.

We are excited to announce an educational opportunity for individuals interested in becoming remote certified to work in First Nations communities. This program includes paid training costs for the required courses and certification, ensuring you gain the qualifications needed for this rewarding career path. The training will run from January to June 2025 and will consist of four virtual courses over a six-month period. Upon successful completion of the courses and consolidation practicum, you will transition to the role of community health nurse. Please note that an 18-month return of service is required.

Title: Employer paid education line
Salary: $47 – $56.70 per hour ( $82,341 - $95,728 per year) pay range explained below
Contract: Permanent 0.5 FTE
Location: Interior B.C.
Bargaining unit: PIPSC BCFNHA Group (Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada)

You will be required to work 0.8 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) for the first 6 months while you complete your virtual training. Upon successful completion of your exam, you will then undertake a 6-week practicum in the community with a preceptor, which will be a full-time commitment. After successfully completing the practicum, you will transition to a 0.5 FTE and be eligible for recruitment and retention bonus up to $33,000.

About the role
Upon successful completion of the remote certification, you will step into the role of Community Health Nurse, providing a wide range of essential nursing functions and services in remote communities, including community and public health, primary care, and urgent and emergent care. We offer flexible work schedules, including a 2, 3, or 4 week on/off rotation. In this role, you will support other health professionals in the nursing stations through orientation, training, and information sharing. You will also plan, implement, and evaluate programs and interventions to address health issues, while advocating to key stakeholders to enhance services that promote the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, groups, and communities.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have / be:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Obtain and maintain Basic Life Support Certification Level C
  • Completion of a recognized specialty nursing program is an asset
  • Requires a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License

You must have experience in;

  • Minimum one (1) year of recent point-of-care nursing experience in emergency care
  • Knowledge of evidence based clinical nursing practice, including current concepts of primary care nursing for the delivery of treatment services, including clinical treatment practices, techniques of intervention, disease symptoms and identification, trauma management requiring knowledge and skill in observing, assessing, and diagnosing illnesses and injuries.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently over rough roads, by float or small plane, by boat or helicopter.
