The Opportunity
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Quality and Performance, this position is responsible for the development, promotion and administration of workplace safety strategies, programs and services and to contribute expertise towards ensuring a healthy, safe and respectful work environment for Carewest. This position is also responsible for oversight and direction to the Data Analyst to integrate and implement health and safety programs and services across Carewest. Duties also include representation on a variety of corporate committees including Emergency Preparedness, Quality and Risk Management initiatives, and Safety Strategies Committee. This position will provide safety expertise for all Alberta OHS legislated requirements and will advise senior leadership, managers and employees in all related areas. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A related university degree plus certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent.
- If CRSP not present, commitment to complete within 2 years must be provided.
- Continuing Care Safety Association Auditor certification to be completed within 6 months of hire, if not previously acquired.
- Current and relevant post-degree education or designations related to Health, Safety & Environment.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years relevant workplace safety experience required, preferably in healthcare.
- 3+ years’ experience in a leadership capacity preferred.
- Leading organizational-wide change projects.
- Experience in Emergency Disaster management.
- In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Facilitation/coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
- Significant experience in problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation.
- Team leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
- Demonstrated ability to foster relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effective communicator with strong organizational & influencing skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services.
- Ability to relay or explain complex issues or difficult situations.
- Adaptable to constant change. A minimum of 3 years in Occupational Health & Safety in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is preferred (healthcare experience an asset)
