Employee Engagement Specialist - TEMP MAT-LEAVE (12 Months)

Position Overview

In collaboration with the Director of Care, Department Heads, and the Director of Talent Management, the Employee Engagement Specialist conducts support functions to implement talent management strategies and plans for workforce needs. This role considers immediate and long-term staffing requirements. The Specialist leads the TM function in areas such as recruitment & onboarding, retention, culture & employee engagement, wellness & absenteeism, performance management, talent development, and workforce planning. The Specialist provides monthly metrics and analyzes trends, gaps, and best practices in the Home.

Essential Duties

  • Demonstrates attitudes and beliefs consistent with being person-centered.
  • Supports the Director, Talent Management, and other stakeholders to explore and implement enhancements to talent management initiatives.
  • Acts as the Home’s HRIS expert to optimize software use.
  • Ensures optimal employee utilization during shifts, in partnership with operations.
  • May need to work day/evening/night shifts to support employee engagement.
  • Supports and implements recruiting processes, tools, resources, and training.
  • Coordinates recruiting efforts using various sourcing methods.
  • Supports managers in coaching, mentoring, and developing employees through talent development and succession planning.
  • Manages the employee engagement survey, assesses trends and gaps, and partners with operations to create action plans.
  • Supports wellness and absenteeism programs, addressing concerns appropriately and aligning with collective agreements.
  • Aligns home priorities with organizational talent management strategies.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business, or related field; HR certification preferred.
  • CHRP designation is an asset.
  • 2-3 years of HR generalist experience.
  • Experience in Long Term Care or healthcare industry is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Proficiency with HR platforms, software, G-Suite, and Microsoft Office.
  • Recent vulnerable sector screening, TB test or X-ray, and supervisory references required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required.
