The University of Calgary is seeking an EMIS Administrator to manage the Energy Management Information System across campus. You will ensure EMIS software, databases, and analytics tools are available, secure, and optimized for performance, while collaborating with BMS technicians and IT teams to resolve issues and improve capabilities.
This role focuses on system upgrades, data integration, licensing, documentation, and supporting energy efficiency initiatives within the Facilities Development
The FD Operational Sustainability within the Facilities Development is currently seeking a Full-time Regular EMIS Administrator.
The Operational Sustainability unit plays a critical role ensuring all University owned buildings and systems are designed and operated to provide safe, reliable, and efficient spaces to conduct research and learning, in alignment with the institutional strategy Ahead of Tomorrow and climate action goals. A central component of this effort is the Energy Management Information System (EMIS), an integrated network of sensors, meters, servers, databases, software applications, and communication infrastructure that provides real time operational and building performance data. The position requires calm decision making, sound judgment, and effective communication, particularly when addressing time sensitive or high impact issues.
The normal work schedule is a 35 hour week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional overtime during peak periods or critical incidents. While primarily office based, the role may require visits to mechanical rooms, rooftops, or other building spaces to verify equipment, support troubleshooting. The position reports to the Energy Manager and is part of the AUPE Bargaining Unit.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the system administrator for the University's Energy Management Information System (EMIS). This includes ensuring that all EMIS servers, databases, applications, and data analytics tools are operational, secure, accurate, and optimized for performance. The EMIS Administrator is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the analytics platform, programming the integration of new data points, particularly metering, and developing system functionality so users can fully leverage the tool for operational and strategic decision making. The EMIS Administrator also helps the BMS technicians as needed.
The position works closely with BMS technicians, IT teams, external vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve technological issues, improve system reliability, and expand the EMIS's capabilities. Key areas of focus include installation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of EMIS related hardware, software, networking components, and analytics tools.
In addition, the EMIS Specialist establishes technical standards, documentation, and procedures for the EMIS, ensuring consistent practices across internal staff and contractors. Through this work, the position plays a central role in supporting energy efficiency, operational excellence, and the University' s broader sustainability objectives.
We would like to thank all applicants in advance for submitting their resumes. Please note, only those candidates chosen to continue on through the selection process will be contacted.
This position is part of the AUPE bargaining unit, and falls under the Technical Job Family, Phase 2.
