About the Role

The Emergency Sexual Assault Service Worker supports underserved and shíshálh Nation youth affected by sexual violence. The Worker provides support to vulnerable and at-risk youth through individual and group sessions, as well as outreach services. The role covers areas along the Sunshine Coast, focusing on enhancing safety and access to resources. Additionally, this position plays a key role in providing resources and information to youth-serving organizations, schools, and caregivers. The Worker reports to the Lead of Community-Based Victim Services.

What You’ll Do

• Develop a coordinated response with high schools to support youth affected by sexual violence, providing practical and emotional support, criminal justice information, medical care, forensic exams, safety planning, and other resources.
• Enhance accessibility and engagement through outreach, collaborating with SCCSS Youth Team, Indigenous communities, RCMP, and other youth organizations.
• Promote sexual assault prevention by liaising with youth services and agencies.
• Deliver culturally and developmentally appropriate services for youth, including Indigenous youth, in cases of disclosed sexual assault.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, staff, parents, and youth to increase awareness, answer questions, and encourage service-seeking.
• Maintain program records, statistics, timesheets, communication logs, and other administrative systems.
• Collaborate with the shíshálh Nation to implement training and strategies for supporting Indigenous youth and engaging families, elders, and communities.
• Provide information, emotional support, and referrals for issues related to relationship violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and family violence.
• Respond to calls on the CBVS Outreach Line, offering emotional support, debriefing, referrals, and practical assistance.
• Stay informed about community resources, gaps, and the socio-economic and geographical makeup of the area, and consult with social workers, professionals, and families as needed.
• Adhere to SCCSS policies, procedures, and compliance requirements, including CARF standards.

What You Bring

• Degree or diploma in social service/child and youth care or a related field plus two years of relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good understanding of, and experience working with youth individually and in a group setting.
• Experience and a solid understanding of trauma-informed and harm reduction practice.
• Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate appointments and events after school and in the evenings.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to accommodate developmental needs.
• Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
• Experience working effectively and in a non-judgmental manner with youth from different cultures, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Experience applying a feminist analysis of gender violence as it affects children, youth and trans folks.
• Victim Services on-line or in person training an asset.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite with understanding of platforms utilized by Youth.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
