In this position, you will be working within a team that is responsible for the day-to-day emergency response activities, such as fire, medical aid, oil spill / loss of containment, technical rescue, Hazmat, security, as well as inspecting / maintaining all the equipment associated with these tasks.

The Opportunity :

In this position, you will be working within a team that is responsible for the day-to-day emergency response activities, such as fire, medical aid, oil spill / loss of containment, technical rescue, Hazmat, security, as well as inspecting / maintaining all the equipment associated with these tasks. To ensure the safe and reliable operation of our facility, you will conduct compliance and safety assessments in the field, deliver emergency response awareness training to personnel throughout the year, and mentor employees and contractors in emergency response and safety procedures.

Responsibilities :

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to :

  • Conducts pre-trips on all large emergency equipment that is assigned to the facility. This includes, but is not limited to, fire apparatus, quick response vehicles, emergency response trailers, 4X4 pickups, and a marine response boat.
  • Inspects all small emergency equipment that is assigned to the facility. This includes, but is not limited to, extinguishers, hydrants, fixed suppression equipment, hoses, appliances, and PPE.Contributes to the evaluation of new technologies and equipment to determine their suitability for the facility.
  • Participates in and delivers safety and emergency response-related training, including Hazmat, technical rescue, fire, PPE, marine response and emergency drills / exercises. Provides recommendations to the supervisor for additions to our training programs.
  • Serves on facility teams as support for fire protection, emergency response and Incident Command.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for emergency response among the operating crews via discussion and emergency response plan development.
  • Provides safety leadership & mentorship through conversation and visible actions.
  • Resolves potential safety issues that may arise involving employees or contractors.
  • Support unplanned work and major yearly planned maintenance events. Planned maintenance events may require a 13-day, 12-hour Day or night schedule with one day off, resulting in significant overtime.

Requirements :

  • Minimum 5 years as a volunteer or full-time municipal or industrial firefighter (preferred).
  • Class 1, 3 or 5 with air endorsement drivers license.
  • NFPA 1001 or 1081.
  • NFPA 1006 rope rescue and confined space rescue operations level.
  • Valid Intermediate with Transport Endorsement or Advanced first aid certificate. BC EMALB licensed FR, EMR, or PCP with jurisprudence accepted.
  • PCOC. MED A3 / SDVBS and ROC-Maritime (preferred).
  • Must embrace positive change and is committed to help further advance our safety and continuous improvement culture at the facility.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. Proficient in classroom teaching, and computer skills are essential for this position.
