Job summary

Trans Mountain Corporation seeks a seasoned Emergency Response Technician to lead and support petroleum-related emergency responses from the Kamloops regional office. You will coordinate with local responders, oversee preparedness activities, and conduct maintenance of facility equipment in line with EHS standards.

The role requires NFPA 1081 and NFPA 472 certifications, plus First Aid Level 2 and Confined Space Rescue credentials, with a minimum of six years in emergency response.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• NFPA 1081 Industrial Firefighter Certification is required.
• NFPA 472 Chapter 16 Flammable Liquids Bulk Storage Certification TEEX required.
• Occupational First Aid Certificate – Level 2 and Confined Space Rescue Technician certification are required.

• Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in emergency response or related field.

Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values-driven individual to join our dynamic team as an Emergency Response Technician. You will lead and support responses to petroleum-related fires and emergencies, coordinate with municipal first responders, maintain emergency preparedness, and perform the local operation, inspection, and routine maintenance of facility equipment in accordance with approved Company procedures and EHS standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain emergency response procedures, equipment, records, and response readiness, and validate preparedness through inspections, training, and emergency exercises.
• Deploy emergency response protocols during incidents and lead or coordinate field activities as part of the local incident management team, including responses to petroleum-related fires, spills, and other emergencies.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on fire protection and emergency response systems, providing guidance and supporting fire systems, confined space, and rescue training.
• Coordinate tank fire and emergency response exercises with the Manager of Emergency Management, coaching personnel and supporting field activities during exercises.
• Provide Community Awareness Emergency Response presentations to first responders and liaise with local fire departments regarding emergency fire suppression processes, procedures, and facility operations.
• Locally operate pumps, Motor Operated Valves, Hydraulically Operated Valves, pipeline scraper systems, and other facility equipment in consultation with the Control Centre Operator and operations group.
• Perform product quality and measurement analysis, tank gauging, and sample collection, as required.
• Analyze and interpret SCADA and Local Operator Interface displays, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, valve numbering diagrams, and other operational information.
• Recognize and respond effectively to abnormal operating conditions.
• Inspect facility equipment and systems, storage tanks, buildings, and facility piping; perform routine maintenance; and prepare, isolate, and drain equipment for maintenance activities.
• Provide oversight of third-party contractors and other personnel to ensure maintenance and project activities comply with approved EHS and procedural standards.
• Prepare, complete, and monitor work orders, and review operational documentation including Job Hazard Analyses, safe work permits, job plans, operating manuals, and drawings.
• Collaborate with technical groups, project teams, and contractors on operational, safety, emergency response, and system impairment matters.
• Obtain and maintain all required job qualifications and assigned training, and maintain a high regard for personal safety, Company assets, employees, and the public.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

• High school diploma required.
• Required emergency response certifications, including NFPA 1081 Industrial Firefighter Certification and NFPA 472 Chapter 16 Flammable Liquids Bulk Storage Specialty Certification TEEX.
• Additional required certifications and training, including Occupational First Aid Certificate – Level 2, Confined Space Rescue Technician certification.
• Preferred certifications include HAZWOPER and IC 300.
• Minimum 6 years of progressive experience.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage competing priorities, and complete high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, first responders, and stakeholders at all levels.

Working Conditions

• Willingness and ability to travel as required.
• Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Must be able to perform field work at operational facilities and respond to emergencies outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
