Job description

The Emergency Department Physician Group at Brockville General Hospital invites applications from qualified candidates for a part-time or full-time position as an Emergency Medicine Physician. The successful candidate will join a closely-knit and diverse team of physicians focused on providing safe, effective care in a collaborative, collegial, and multi-disciplinary environment. Please note that locum opportunities in the department are also available.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Department Chief of Emergency, the Emergency Medicine Physician collaborates with other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and allied medical staff to:

  • Provide patient-centred care
  • Participate in medical staff meetings and committees as required
  • Ensure medical practice aligns with the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals
  • Participate in a culture of continuous quality improvement following standards of excellence
  • Support double physician coverage (12:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily)
  • Mentor medical students and residents

Brockville General Hospital is a 160-bed facility located in Brockville, approximately 45 minutes from Kingston and an hour from Ottawa. It is the largest hospital in Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville County, serving a catchment area of 250,000 residents. Situated in the scenic Thousand Islands region, the hospital offers a variety of services including an 18-bed Emergency Department with approximately 30,000 visits annually, a 10-bed ICU, general internal medicine, general surgery, urology, psychiatry, orthopedics, ophthalmology, palliative care, and specialized stroke services. Diagnostic imaging services include ultrasound, X-ray, CT, and MRI. The hospital recently adopted the Cerner EMR system as part of the Lumeo regional initiative.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must hold an M.D. or equivalent, possess an active license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), and have up-to-date coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA). While having a CCFP EM Fellowship / FRCP EM and emergency medicine experience is an asset, it is not required.

Remuneration

The ER Physician Group at Brockville General operates under an Alternate Funding Arrangement (AFA) model. Compensation includes a competitive hourly shift rate plus a share of OHIP billings. Full-time physicians, working approximately 14 shifts per month, can expect an annual income in the range of $375,000 to $400,000.
