Locum and Full-Time Emergency Physician Opportunities – Belleville General Hospital, Ontario

About Us

Nestled on the shores of the Bay of Quinte in Southeastern Ontario, Belleville General Hospital is a 260-bed community hospital serving a region with excellent access to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and upstate New York. Our Emergency Department sees over 39,500 cases annually, with daily patient volumes ranging from 95–120.

Locum Opportunities

We have various locum shifts available from September 1–30. Opportunities exist in both the fast-track and higher acuity area. All shifts average 8-9 hours. There may be up to four physicians on duty, depending on the time of day.

Remuneration

Competitive remuneration via Alternate Funding Agreement (daily rates based on shift + shadow billing).

  • Approximate hourly rates: 226.00 - 288.00, depending on the shift and time of day with a shadow billing premium of 37%.
  • Full-time physicians can expect 350,000–400,000 annually
  • City of Belleville incentives up to 75,000* (*for full-time positions with return-of-service)
  • Accommodation and/or travel may be available.
Qualifications

We’re looking for physicians with CCFP (with ED experience), CCFP-EM, FRCPC, or ABMS. New grads are welcome to apply as well.

  • Current with ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications
  • Eligible for Ontario licensure
Support & Resources
  • A dedicated team of emergency nurses
  • There is support from specialists in family medicine, paediatrics, internal medicine, ICU, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, anesthesiology, oncology, OBGYN, psychiatry, ENT, ophthalmology, radiology and interventional radiology
  • Access to point-of-care ultrasound (3 machines, including endocavitary and transesophageal probes)
  • State-of-the-art diagnostics including 64-slice CT scanner, MRI, and 24/7 ultrasounds/CTs
  • Proximity to Kingston General Hospital (55 min) for tertiary support in neurosurgery, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, and trauma care
Teaching & Academic Opportunities

Many of our full-time emergency physicians are affiliated with Queen’s University as Adjunct Assistant Professors, participating in resident training through the Queen’s Belleville Family Medicine Program.

Quinte Health

Quinte Health includes four hospitals—Belleville General, North Hastings, Prince Edward County Memorial, and Trenton Memorial—providing care across 335+ inpatient beds, 4 EDs, multiple ORs, ambulatory care clinics, rehab services, and mental health programs. Physicians may have opportunities to work across multiple sites.
