Overview

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools, as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph. The Opportunity

The UGDSB is seeking dynamic individuals to join as Emergency Educational Assistant. Under the direction of the Principal/Vice-Principal, this position supports students with diverse needs in the absence of a filled Educational Assistant vacancy, ensuring a safe and secure environment at all times.

Work Locations

All geographical areas of the Board including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County and Shelburne. Applicants may select the school location(s) and/or geographic areas where they are interested in working.

Rate Of Pay

$30.92 per hour (wage rate effective September 1, 2025), plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.

Hours Per Week

On call depending on need (3.25 hours or 6.5 hours per day).

0Duties To Commence/end

As soon as possible and ending June 26, 2026 with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities
  • Work with students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment.
  • Work with students both individually and/or in a group setting.
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher and Administration.
  • Ability to function independently within the framework of a team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Successful completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Capable of performing essential physical duties of the role (lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment) and utilizing BMS techniques where required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with proven ability and recent school-based experience working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities.
  • Prior experience (paid or volunteer) working with school-aged children is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Ability to work as a team player and maintain confidentiality and privacy of student information.
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
