Embryologist-in-Training

Department: Laboratory

Reports To: Laboratory Director

Location: Vancouver Clinic

Work Schedule: 4-day on, 4-day off rotation; 10 hours per day.

Salary and job level could start higher, depending on pre-existing candidate embryology knowledge, training, experience and skill level.

Overview:

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose, and Commitment of Olive Fertility Centre:

Supporting the Embryology area of the Laboratory, and reporting to the Laboratory Director, this position is pivotal to the organization. This role focuses on clinical embryology in the field of fertility.

Key Areas of Involvement Include:

Andrology:
  • Semen Analysis
  • Sperm Preparation for IUI
  • Donor Sperm Preparation for IUI and IVF
  • Semen Freezing
  • Thaw of Cryopreserved Sperm
  • Trial Wash
Embryology:
  • Laboratory Testing
  • Sample Accession, Identification and Labeling
  • Patient Identification/Record Keeping
  • Media Preparation
  • Media Quality Control
  • Fertilization check
  • Grading Embryos
  • Embryo Culture/Extended Culture
  • Embryoscope
  • Embryo Transfer

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences from an accredited university.
  • Previous laboratory experience is an asset.
  • Previous embryology experience is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Independent and confident with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in an environment subject to changing deadlines, stress, and focus in a busy environment.
  • Ability to discuss intimate medical topics in a professional, compassionate manner.
  • Professional, friendly demeanour that can effectively defuse difficult situations and put patients at ease.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to varying needs of organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Calm, pleasant demeanour with strong telephone skills: pleasant tone and receptive voice.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English.
