Embrace Autism Is Hiring : Autistic Psychologist or Psychiatrist (Ontario, Remote)

Help redefine autism assessment—by autistic clinicians, for autistic adults.

Pay : $250 / hour or $500 per patient (1–2 hours total per case)

About the Role :

Embrace Autism is seeking an autistic psychologist or psychiatrist licensed in Ontario to join our neurodivergent-led team. You will conduct 45–60 minute clinical interviews to support autism assessments for adults without intellectual disability. In addition to the interview, you’ll review a detailed report that includes developmental history, clinical notes, and psychometric test results.

Each case involves approximately 1–2 hours total. Assessments are conducted virtually, and you can work from anywhere in Ontario. You’ll typically see about five clients per week, with complete flexibility in scheduling.

Complete training in our neurodiversity-affirming assessment model is provided.

What You’ll Do :

  • Conduct structured or semi-structured clinical interviews with adult clients (16+)
  • Review intake materials and psychometric data provided in advance
  • Contribute your clinical impressions to a comprehensive diagnostic report
  • Receive structured onboarding and support to learn our approach and tools

Why This Role Might Be Right for You :

This is an ideal opportunity for an autistic clinician who wants to focus on meaningful, affirming clinical work without the burden of administration. Our team handles all booking, billing, technical support, and client preparation. You show up for the interview and contribute your insights; we take care of the rest.

You’ll Be Working With :

An autistic team. We center accessibility, collaboration, and respect; you’ll never need to mask or explain your neurotype.

We Offer :

  • Training in our evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming assessment process
  • Ongoing peer support from experienced autistic clinicians
  • Flexible scheduling and autonomy over your caseload
  • Compensation : $250 / hour or $500 per client

Requirements :

  • You must be autistic and open about your identity
  • Licensed as a psychologist or psychiatrist in Ontario
  • Experience or interest in adult autism (Level 1) assessment
  • Commitment to neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed care
  • No prior autism assessment experience is required—training is provided

Relevance to Research :

Recent studies have shown that autistic clinicians offer unique insights into the diagnostic process, especially when assessing other autistic individuals.

  • A 2023 study on autistic doctors found that many experience significant workplace barriers, yet also bring deep empathy, ethical commitment, and clinical precision to their work. Supportive, affirming environments were found to be key to thriving in practice (Lewis et al., 2023).
  • A 2024 qualitative study of autistic psychiatrists found that self-recognition enhanced their ability to recognize autism in others and build meaningful patient rapport (Doherty et al., 2024).

At Embrace Autism, we’ve built a model that reflects these findings. You’ll be working in an environment designed to remove barriers and celebrate neurodivergent expertise, while helping others gain access to the understanding and validation they deserve.

About Embrace Autism :

Embrace Autism is a neurodivergent-run organization providing adult autism assessments worldwide. We specialize in affirming, evidence-based evaluations for adults without intellectual disability, and are committed to epistemic justice, clinical excellence, and community healing.
