Job summary

World Star Tech in Markham, Canada, is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to join a growing team. You will develop firmware and GUIs for laser systems and medical devices, and contribute to in-house automation using robotic systems.

The role requires 2+ years in engineering, strong C++/Python skills, and experience with STM32 microcontrollers and GUI design. Collaboration across electronic, software, and optomechanical disciplines is essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or related technical field with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python following OO design principles.
  • Experience developing firmware for STM32 microcontrollers and similar peripherals.
  • GUI design for desktop and embedded touchscreen applications.
  • Write clean, readable, well-documented code.

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware and GUIs for laser markers, spectrometers, analyzers, and medical devices.
  • Create software solutions for in-house automation using robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers across electronics, software and optomechanics.

Job description

World Star Tech is a leading manufacturer of laser systems for biomedical, instrumentation, and machine vision applications. Located in Markham, we operate out of a modern facility and are currently seeking a dynamic, high-performing Embedded Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter with excellent technical and communication skills. They must have a proven track record of developing and deploying high-quality software/firmware. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop firmware and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for new and existing products, including laser markers, spectrometers, analyzers, and medical devices.
  • Create software solutions for in-house automation using robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team (electronic, software, and optomechanical) at the forefront of innovation.
Basic Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering or a related technical field with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, following object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience developing firmware for STM32 microcontrollers or similar, including use of timers, I2C/UART/SPI, DMA, ADC, and other peripherals.
  • Experience in GUI design for desktop and/or embedded touchscreen applications.
  • Ability to write clean, readable, and well-documented code.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Comfortable working across abstraction layers, from low-level embedded systems to high-level system architecture.
  • Experience with C# and .NET for desktop application development.
  • Familiarity with TCP socket programming and cloud-based services.
  • Experience with image processing
