Job description

Under the supervision of the OSCS Principal, the Elementary teacher position offers a balanced education program that encompasses mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical development. The role involves empowering students to be responsible for their own success within the syilx community. The teacher is responsible for meeting learning outcomes in accordance with the BC Ministry of Education Curriculum and promoting a positive, safe learning environment.

The teacher will collaborate with the Okanagan Language and Culture staff to integrate Okanagan culture and teachings into various subject areas. Additionally, they will work cooperatively with OSCS staff to maximize resources and ensure student success. The role includes delivering quality education through programs that combine the Provincial curriculum with Okanagan culture and language.

Additional responsibilities may include supporting learning outside regular hours, such as organizing field trips, school sports, after-school clubs, guest speakers, and meetings with families.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Provincial Curriculum experience from K-8
• 3+ years of experience working in a First Nations school

Assets

• Knowledge of Okanagan culture, some language skills, and a willingness to learn more
• Understanding of the Penticton Indian Band community issues
• Excellent organization, planning, and reporting skills

Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements

• Current BC College of Teachers certification
• Bachelor of Education degree (minimum)
