Summary

Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation periods. Prepares lesson plans and classroom materials, and provides instruction in specialized subject areas such as music, art, science, computer operations, media center usage, physical education, languages, and health.

Description

This classified position is open to all qualified applicants. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The position offers 4.17 hours per day, 174 days per year, with a salary grade of 6 at $19.60 per hour (2025-26 Support Salary Table). Promotions include a minimum 5% increase. Hours are approximate.

General Function: Under supervision, teaches classes and supervises students during teacher preparation periods, preparing lesson plans and instructional materials in specialized subjects.

Educational Requirements:

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Formal education or training in the specialized area preferred
• Must have the equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of college education, an associate's degree, or pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test at a later date

Knowledge & Ability:

• Knowledge of subject matter related to assigned courses
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with students, teachers, and staff
• Ability to effectively teach assigned subjects

Job-Related Experience:

• None required
• Experience working with children preferred
